School Information

Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, founded in 2001, is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Its landmark 16-story academic building, occupying 380,000 square feet and costing $73 million, is located in Harrisburg. An 11-story medical center, costing nearly $100 million, is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in 2023. Harrisburg University places particular emphasis on STEM fields such as engineering, applied science, and technology, offering 15 bachelor’s degrees, 13 master’s degrees, and 3 doctoral degrees, as well as certificate programs.

School Introduction

Harrisburg currently offers 12 graduate degrees with CPT, most of which are STEM fields. At the Philadelphia campus, only the MS Techpreneurship and MSHCI (Human-Computer Interaction Design) CPT programs support international students; both are two years long, totaling six semesters.

CPT Application Process

F-1 students can begin full-time CPT work and CPT courses as early as Day 1 of their first semester (CPT). CPT work must be related to the course content; CPT can be full-time or part-time. There are strict standards for full-time and part-time CPT. Working less than 20 hours per week is considered part-time; working more than 20 hours per week is considered full-time.

Applying for CPT requires an employer: After the employer completes the CPT Verification Form and submits an Offer Letter to the International Student Office for approval, the school will issue an I-20 form containing the employer’s information.
- A CPT I20 form can only contain information about one employer.
- Harrisburg University requires annual CPT renewal.

If a student registers for courses in the following semester in advance, their CPT will automatically extend to the start of that semester, covering any gaps in their academic career, allowing them to work legally indefinitely.
