CPT Summary

After completing three consecutive quarters of the degree program at Sofia University , you can participate in the internship program (but F1 students who have been in the United States for more than 9 months are exempt from this requirement). Internship courses are designed to provide students with practical experience relevant to the academic degree program in which they are admitted. International students must apply for CPT work authorization before starting work (paid or unpaid). In addition, CPT requiresan additional 0-credit internship course (with additional fees).

Earliest start time of CPT

The earliest start date for CPT at Sofia University is the Program Start Date, which is also the first day of classes.

CPT application time

Students who need to apply for CPT must submit the application as early as possible and upload the required application materials and get admission. Sofia University will generally send an email to remind you to apply for CPT 2 weeks before the start of the semester. CPT applications usually take 2 weeks to process. Please submit your CPT application as early as possible to avoid not being able to get CPT on the first day of school.

CPT Agreement

To apply for CPT, the employer needs to sign the Cooperative Agreement and submit it before the CPT application deadline. If your current employer does not sign the CPT Agreement, you can still communicate with the DSO, and the DSO will review it case by case to see if it meets the conditions of Waive. Many previous Cooperative Agreements with Google and Amazon employees have been successful with Waive.

CPT Update

Sofia Sofia University needs to renew CPT every semester. There is no gap in CPT authorization during the semester . Students can always use CPT to work during the project. You can renew your CPT for the next semester 2 weeks in advance before the end of the semester. If you study at Sofia University for three consecutive semesters, you can apply for a semester off. You can also do full-time CPT during the vacation semester , and you only need to pay the tuition fee for the CPT course.

CPT application steps

Sofia University’s CPT work authorization is currently for one semester. The Renew procedure is relatively simple and you only need to submit the Renew form.1

Your Academic Advisor will review whether your work is relevant to the courses you are studying. Usually the CPT review time is 1-2 weeks.5

Semester Settings

The curriculum of Sofia University is a quarter system, with 4 quarters per academic year: Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. There are 11 terms per semester. Every Quater can apply for admission:

• Summer 2023 – 7/3/2023 (application deadline)
• Fall 2023 – 10/2/2023 (Application has closed)
• Winter 2024 – 1/8/2024
• Spring 2024 – 4/1/2024

Curriculum

Sofia University courses adopt a hybrid format. Each Quater must register for at least 2 courses (each course is worth 3 credits, a total of 6 credits, and the additional CPT course is not counted), one online and one onsite, using the hybrid format. , meets the requirements of the USCIS for F-1 international students. You can only choose a maximum of one purely online course per semester . In addition, if students need CPT, they need to take an additional 0-credit course. Although they do not need to attend class, they need to complete the course tasks/assignments on time.

Onsite Policy

Onsite course schools must participate, otherwise they will automatically lose their F1 status .

Frequency of on-site classes: Classes with on-site requirements require the school to come to the school once a month, a total of three times in a semester. Onsite classes are scheduled for Saturday or Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, there is an Online course that is 100% online and requires students to log in to Canvas and complete all course content on time (no Zoom Live Class).

Vacation Policy

Sofia University can take three semesters and one semester off, and you do not need to pay tuition during this period. If you need CPT, you will need to pay additional fees.

Of course, in order to graduate quickly, you can also choose not to take a vacation.

Other notes

• The total GPA during school must be maintained above 3.0 , otherwise you will not be able to graduate successfully and the Fulltime CPT will be terminated.
• Remember to do your homework on time . CPT courses will also have homework.
